Dashboard Widget Design Commercialization
Published by ColourMod June 30th, 2005 in UncategorizedPretty much 99% (once again I’m throwing out a meaningless unresearched percentage that I think is pretty accurate) of the Dashboard Widget market is freeware. At least I haven’t seen one that isn’t.
I do know that there is a market for developers designing Dashboard Widgets for clients. So I’m predicting that as time advances Dashboard Widget design is going to become more commercialized.
You will see widgets being designed as applications for businesses, clients, etc. Specific applications would be a widget for clients to access Content Management Systems. Other ideas could be project management applications that access the same database. Multiple employees from anywhere in the world could access there projects via a simple little Dashboard Widget.
Once again, we’re talking Interware. Now that I’ve started developing some of my own widgets, I see the relative ease in creating widgets for these very purposes. I am not an application developer by trade, but I do know the ins and outs of web-related development. Widgets are the intertwining of the two.
I can guarantee you that you will see BaseCamp, Ta Da Lists and Backpack all become robust Dashboard Widget applications. You will also see a whole host of other commercial Dashboard Widgets be released too.
The only question I have is how do you protect the Widget from piracy? I’m sure Apple has already thought about that.

Two new studies show why some people are more attractive for members of the opposite sex than others.
The University of Florida, Florida State University found that physically attractive people almost instantly attract the attention of the interlocutor, sobesednitsy with them, literally, it is difficult to make eye.
